I finally 'came out' to my boyfriend about my ff addiction. I was rereading 'Tales from the House of the Moon' and I just had to share part of the story with him. We were watching Inuyasha and having one of our 'Sesshoumaru is a bad ass' converesations and it just slipped. He took it surprisingly well. My best friend was the only one who knew before and the only one who knows the extent and length of my addiction, because we discovered it together a decade ago.

My friends all know about it, and they are cool, because if they try to tell me I am a geek for it, I just pull out my trump card. They all liked Dungeons & Dragons. Both of my sisters know. In the mid '90's I wrote a fic for Sailor Moon, my first. Then I wrote a fic for the Last Unicorn and gave it to a sister for a birthday present. Now, none of my sisters are into Inuyasha, so they have not read anything.
My boyfriend knows, and he will watch Inuyasha, and he knows I have an abnormal crush on Sesshoumaru, but he has basically told me that he will never read anything I have written about it.
No one in my family has read any of my Inuyasha stuff...makes me sad.

Excellent topic.
Truth?
No, aside from the husband, no one in real life knows of this "indulgence".
Why? Most, within my milieu, would never understand and would immediately set up an intervention for their "lovely friend" who has clearly gone over the edge. Even hubby, who is relatively broadminded about this "wee cartoooooooon" aboration, does not like it mentioned in polite company *snort*.
Matters not, I enjoy. It is great source of relaxation for me, along with exercising and walking the dog. I find it glorious because I have come across myriad people, I otherwise would not have had the good fortune of communicating with and getting to know. I say, more fool them and their snobberies. It is fun.
Again,great question.

This is all my daughter's fault. She badgered me into watching InuYasha and Witch Hunter Robin on AdultSwim. Then, when I couldn't wait to find out what happened after episode 15 in WHR, I went online to check it out. In the process, I stumbled across fan fiction and the rest is history. I progressed from reading everything I could find in the WHR fandom on to IY - starting with Inu/Kag, then progressed to Sess/Kag - and am quite firmly stuck here now.
Unfortunately, my daughter did not foresee the results of sucking me into watching anime with her and now she laments the fact that I'm so firmly stuck on reading all this stuff. My entire family has participated in several 'interventions' designed to ' wean mom away from her "box"' - with mixed results.
With two gamers and one confirmed sports fanatic, and only three TVs, my "box" suits me just fine, thank you. My hubby considers it just short of insane for me to be reading stories written about "cartoons." My kids still persist in trying to lure me out of the dining room where my computer is located. My extended family doesn't understand it AT ALL. TOO BAD. Everyone has their guilty pleasures... this is mine!!

I think that most everyone that I know, knows about my fanfic addiction, though most of them would never be brave enough to read ANYTHING I write, and for that I am grateful... not quite sure how I would explain to my 85 year old mother about the smut that I write... hehe.. talk about awkward. Well, I guess she might eventually read some of it if I ever get around to finishing my book.
My husband supports my addiction... I thing that he really just likes to hear me tell him all the dirty stuff that I read and write... makes for some wonderful inspiration.

You'd rather people think you're looking at porn, than reading fanfiction??!! LOL!!! That is hillarious to me!!
A few people in my family know I write fanfiction, but I don't think they understand how truly addicted I really am. I'm just glad that I have found a place where I am not the only adult female who is in love with an anime character. I truly feel at home here at Dokuga.
I love you all, but I will say this. YOU GUYS CAN'T HAVE SESSHOUMARU!!! HE'S MINE!!!!
hehehe... you all are great.
But seriously, hands off!

I'll fight you for him.
I've told just about everybody I know that I write fanfiction and read it. They thought I was odd to begin with so it didn't really matter. They think it's funny how into anime I am especially when they found out that I cosplay.

I have a guy friend that knows but he watches way more anime then I do, and cosplays most of them. He thought I was reading Yaoi fanfiction too since I was so into Inuyasha fanfiction. No one in my family really knows except my nephew who was spying on my computer one day while I was away from my room. He was like "ooh fanfiction what is that?". My answer was "Go away it's Inuyasha stuff and not for kids".
I have a few sess/kag drawings in the sketchbooks, but I only let my mom see one. She has no idea who the people are since I'm the only one that watches anime or reads manga. My siblings already think I'm pretty weird because of all the gaming I do, and all the J-pop and J-rock music packages that come here from Japan.
When they ask what I'm doing, which is very rare, my answers are:
I'm reading Harlequin books online
I'm playing a game
I'm watching Hyde
I got dibs on Sesshoumaru!

It's not a secret, but I have so many time-consuming interests, I think most who know me just lump it in with all the other stuff I'm involved in.
(I tend to dive into something whole-heartedly, live it fully for a time (obsess over it), then re-surface and totally immerse myself into another project. This "project" surfaces more than others.)
I have no RL manga friends, BUT none of my friends like cartoons or animation in general... (How can you not like animation? )
As for the specifics of what I am writing, where I am posting and the subject matter... My kids know and have read the rated K stuff I've written.
Hubby has no interest in anything outside of math and sports, but he likes me to be happy, so he feigns interest and is relieved when I see his eyes glaze over and stop chattering about it. He is proud of me when I tell him I have been nominated, or placed in awards and contests.
My parents know I am writing, as do my siblings, but they have never asked what subject or if they can read it. They like other things I write, but those are for the kids in the families and not posted online.

I don't talk about it, but a couple people know about it. I suppose the way you tell them contributes to their reaction. They don't really care, they never ask. *Shrugs* It's a good hobby-ish/time-passer sort of thing, haha. As long as it doesn't affect my life to a certain margin or affect my health, they don't really care what I do.
Although I sometimes wonder how healthy an obsession with a certain Sesshomaru is. . .
