Guest Speaker by Moonlight Chaser

Guest Speaker

The teacher's hand motioned that the entire room be silent. The rampant banter suddenly ceased as the guest speaker entered the room. His long hair gently moved behind him and he turned to face the class. A group of girls began to whisper, and giggle as he surveyed the rows. His molten eyes moved to them, and they fell silent as his eyes focused on their faces. He nodded to the teacher and began. "As you all may know the world was once covered by demons, the most highly demonic areas were," his voice was cut off as a girl burst in through the doors, heaving a large backpack and her black hair cascading over her shoulders. She let out an exasperated breath and sat down.

He looked at her with a heightened glare. She stared back at him and gave him an apologetic smile. He turned back to the class and continued on.

The class ended and she made her way down the stairs of the college room. She smirked at the teacher as he gave her a giant smile. His wiry white hair was slicked back and his buttoned shirt was a light blue. He was a sweet man and he had always been very kind to Kagome in class. He was used to her coming in late; she was managing to always tend to her shrine at home. His raspy old voice gave out a quiet whisper. "Well Higurashi, I do believe you picked a bad day to be late." He chuckled quietly. She gave him an unsure and rather worried grin back. Looking up, she saw the guest speaker from behind and was quietly amused by his mannerisms.

He stood elegantly and his hands were quick to close a black brief case of maps and papers. She watched as he picked up the closed case and turned to the teacher. He looked at her, giving her a cold look and then turned to the teacher. "Thank you for having me here today sir." His voice was monotone and his air of superiority showed through with his decisive glance at Kagome before turning. Her bright brown eyes smiled at his cold ones, not realizing his look of disapproval.

She turned back to the teacher and smiled at him as the tall, handsome, speaker walked away. She grinned, "He's not so bad." The teacher grinned back.

"I'm happy that's what you think. He's going to be coming to a meeting this evening with us at the teacher's hall. If you would like to come and possibly discuss the lecture with him, I wouldn't be opposed to allowing you to be my guest," he gave a reassuring thumbs up. She nodded in happy agreement.

At eight o'clock she arrived at school and met the teacher in the class room. He stood up with his cane and they walked down the halls of the school to the main ball room that they used for large interventions. They walked in companionable silence for the moment. As they neared the doors, Kagome smiled and giving her blue, knee-long, strapless dress a quick brush with her hands to dissuade any wrinkles from persisting, she opened the doors into the room.

He looked up as the doors opened and his stomach dropped for a moment, then reprimanding himself, he watched as the student from earlier this afternoon walked in with the teacher. He watched her hair swish gently from side to side. She smiled at the teacher she was with as he took his time towards their table, the man with her slowly moving, cane in hand. They moved towards the table and the old man in an attempt at being gentlemanly, pulled her chair out for her and had her sit down. The professor smiled at her and looked over at Lord Sesshoumaru giving him a curt nod. She turned towards Sesshoumaru and grinned. He watched her lovely mouth form a curving smile. His face stayed astutely trained, and he looked at her with a calm expression. She extended her hand.

"Good evening, my name is Kagome Higurashi; you spoke in my class this afternoon. It was quite entrancing, well I mean fascinating, to hear about all those things that happened in the olden days."

He took in her words and studied her slowly declining smile at his silent reply. He watched the curves in her mouth slowly drop and he gave a slight mental smirk. "Lord Sesshoumaru, it's a pleasure to find someone who is fascinated by demonology." He turned towards the front of the room and watched as a dark haired man with a purple colored shirt walked towards the podium. She turned with his glance and watched as well.

He coughed for a moment and tapped the microphone. "Well! It's a wonderful honor to see so many people here to talk about our subject tonight; we've been all informed of the increasing need to be social. So, allow us to begin with a quick reminder that everyone here is to be taken fully into your arms, danced with in an amiable manner, or possibly more than amiable manner, and given a chance to enjoy themselves. Please, have a wonderful night and enjoy!" There was a sound of applause in the crowds and Kagome blinked beside him. He looked at her from the corner of his eye and looked at the shocked expression on her face. The professor beside her grinned gave her a quick nudge.

"My dear, why don't you dance with Lord Sesshoumaru, I'm sure that you two would have many things in common." His devious glance at Sesshoumaru gave Kagome and reason to stare from the professor to Sesshoumaru and then back again. She glared at the professor, leaning in and whispering.

"You so planned this." She sighed.

Sesshoumaru stood and looked down at her. He gave her a mild expression of sincerity and gently took her hand from its fisted position on the table. She turned quickly and her chocolate eyes looked up into his golden brilliant gaze. She felt herself blush minutely and then blinked away her feeling of floating. His calm and delving voice passed into her mind, "Would you care to dance Ms. Higurashi?"

She felt herself take a gulp, and then stood up rather unsurely. He led her to the dance floor and as a lilting song came from the band, he tightly pulled her into his arms.
