Too Far Gone

Chapter 1:Past Memories, New Fears

"Miroku?" asked Sango as she teased him by waving her hand in front of his face.

Miroku tore his eyes away from Kagome and Inu yasha, sitting on the top of the hill holding hands, "what is it Sango?" he asked as he blushed a bright pink with his black hair shining in the sun from the cloudless sky.

"Do you think they'll last?" she asked as Kirara rested in her lap with Shippo by her side. Shippo lifted his head, from watching a fussy caterpillar crawl across a blade of grass, at this question, looking quite keen on hearing Miroku's point of view.

"It depends," said Miroku, "can Inu yasha keep swallowing his pride."

"Why do you say that Miroku?" pondered Shippo with his fluffy fox tail waving slightly in the breeze.

"Well.... If he says something wrong, like he usually does, and he realizes that he's made a mistake, it might take him to long to apologize," sighed Miroku, "and.... well, she might move on with her life, without him."

"Yeah.... That's for sure, but I think Kagome likes him too much. I honestly don't think she would leave him that easily-," said Sango as Shippo interrupted her.

"SShhh!!... You guys they're are coming this way! Would you try to act normal," hissed Shippo.

Sango and Miroku went identical shades of scarlet as they tried to hide their ear-to-ear grins .

"What are you guys looking at?" asked Inu yasha as he gripped Kagome's hand tighter and her smile widened a bit.

"Well...umm...you two of course," answered Shippo reproachfully as everyone smiled at and snickered at the kitsune's comment. Except Inu yasha, who looked ready to punch Shippo to a pulp. If Kagome hadn't been holding his hand he probably would've.

"Feh..." said Inu yasha stomping his foot hard into the soft ground in frustration as his doglike ears twitched in the warm summer breeze, "well I'm walking Kagome back to the well. I'll see you guys tonight."

"Ohh... umm... Inu yasha?" asked Kagome.

"Yes?"

"Umm... I was wondering..." she said as she paused, 'Oh lord, how do I ask him without sounding so retarded? He'll probably say no, just so he can keep searching for the shards of the Shikon no Tama. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't want to come.'

"What is it Kagome?" Inu yasha asked as he saw a gleam in her eyes and he could tell she didn't want to be left alone without him.

"Would you come with me?" she paused again. 'Oh my God I must sound so desperate.' "Just for a visit... O-only if y-you want to?" she stuttered.

"If that's what you want..." Inu yasha could feel his face burn into a deep shade of scarlet as everyone's eyes were just boring into his, looking keen for his reply, as they stared at him. "(Gulp).... Sure." 'Why does she have to ask me in front of everyone like this? Did she think my answer would be no? No Way, Kagome knows me too well to have thought that and besides I would have said yes even if she asked me in front of Sesshomaru,' Inu yasha thought to himself.

As soon as his answer had left his slightly chapped lips everyone except Kagome burst into a chorus of, "AWW... that's so sweet," in unison towards Inu yasha. Even Kirara seemed to understand as Inu yasha was sure he'd seen her give him and Kagome a tiny wink of encouragement.

"Ahh... well then you two love birds had best be on your way," said Miroku as he jumped to his feet so fast he even startled the short tempered hanyou. Then started to push Kagome and Inu yasha in the direction of the well, "do you think you guys could take Shippo and Kirara too?"

"I don't think so!" Sango shrieked as she realized the lecher's plans, "Shippo and Kirara can stay here with us." Sango then knelt down to whisper in Shippo's ear as a sudden look of pure depression spread across Miroku's face, "if you leave me alone with that pervert priest for one second I swear I will kill you where you stand."

Shippo's eyes widened in fear, as he knew Sango was good to her word and Inu yasha started to chuckle. Kagome leaned over to Inu yasha's shoulder and asked what was so funny. The dog demon turned his head and recited in a whisper word-for-word what his keen ears had just picked up.

Kagome's jaw dropped, "Sango don't you think that's a bit harsh?" she said as Miroku just stood there looking stupid because he was the only one who didn't know what they were talking about. Kagome then looked at her wristwatch. "Ohh-no! Inu yasha if we don't leave now we'll be late for dinner, and mom hates it when I'm late, for any reason."

"Okay, but we can get to the well faster if you ride on my back Kagome," ordered Inu yasha. He turned around for Kagome to get on his back and in a flash they were gone leaving Sango, Miroku, Shippou, and Kirara behind to head to Keade's village by themselves. As soon as they were off the ground hearing the air in their ears Inu yasha began to think that this was bliss. Kagome riding on his back, her warm soft puffs of breath against the back of his neck, the smell of her sweet scent caught in his nose as her soft feminine hands gripped lightly around his shoulders, her chest rising and falling against his back as she breathed steadily in and out, and her long slender legs gently pulled against his waist. That was until he felt IT! He couldn't take it anymore she was driving him crazy, he had to land and get her off him. Now! 'Well at least she won't be able to see what's wrong when I'm wearing my kimono,' he thought to himself. Inu yasha landed hard on his feet and his knees buckled slightly under Kagome's weight, something that never happened before but, he was concentrating really hard on keeping his impulses under control. They had landed at the edge of the forest of which the bone eaters well resided in when Inu yasha mumbled, "off."

"Ohh.... Okay," sighed Kagome with a perplexed look on her face. That was until she looked into Inu yasha's bright amber eyes which were full with frustration and concentration so she decided to let him have some personal space. After five minutes Kagome noticed that Inu yasha seemed to be back to normal as he had stopped trying to put space between the two of them, and Kagome saw her chance to ask him before he got angry again, "Inu yasha are you angry with me?"

'Angry?... Hell No! How could she think that?' he asked himself, 'I just needed some space. I would tell her but she would probably just think that all I'm after is to "clam her"(u get my drift). It's just another excuse for me to not be with her right no-,* Inu yasha was ripped away from his thoughts by the retched smell of demons. Inu yasha stopped dead in his tracks and grabbed Kagome tight around the arm to stop her.

"What's wrong Inu yash-," Kagome stopped speaking the second that she turned around and saw that Inu yasha had a finger pressed to his lips to signal her to be quiet while his adorable doglike ears twitched, obviously trying to listen for a stranger.

"I smell youkai," he said in a voice that was as hard as stone. His whole body was rigid. If Kagome had been walking by she would have thought that he was a statue. The only thing that gave away the fact that he was alive was his ears, they twitched ever so slightly as he strained them, to find the strangers. Whoever they were they didn't want him to find them that easily. That was when a familiar scent caught in his nose, it reminded him of sunny days, and thoughts he didn't know he had. 'Where do I know that smell,' he thought to himself. Then it clicked and he knew who was following them.

Kagome looked into his hardened amber eyes, she was puzzled because they weren't as hard as when Sesshomaru his half brother was around or when he sensed spider heads' presents, they had a softer look about them like when he thought of Kikyo, but wanted to hide it. This thought stung Kagome in her heart, but she didn't have much time to dwell on it as Inu yasha's grim face turned to a satisfied smirk.

His head turned directly upwards, "you'll have to do better then that to hide from me Hibikmi," Inu yasha called to the branches high above their heads. Kagome thought that it was some sort of joke until one of the branches moved to reveal a very pretty if not gorgeous female wearing a beautiful silk kimono.

"I wasn't hiding you baka, I was spying. Can't you tell the difference Inu yasha?" she teased as she jumped gracefully to the vibrant green grass below.

'They know each other?' Kagome asked herself as she looked at the strange demon who had long silver white catlike hair and bright baby blue eyes with thin black slits for pupils. Kagome could also see two long cat fangs when the demon smiled brightly at Inu yasha. This caused Kagome's eyes to harden deeply as her stare dripped with venom towards Hibikmi, until Inu yasha grabbed her hand tight. Kagome dropped her hard stare as she turned to smile at Inu yasha. His deep, amber eyes told her in an instant that he didn't like Hibikmi like he liked her. Then Kagome looked back at the blue eyed demon, and realized that although she had white hair she also had long black eyelashes. Freckles lightly dusted her cheeks, and her gaze locked with Kagome's as she brushed a lock of silvery white bangs from her vision with long delicate claws that were, just like her lips, blood red in colour. Kagome squinted her eyes ever so slightly and saw that they weren't painted on... they were that colour naturally as though they actually had blood surging through tiny capillaries imbedded in her nails.

"What are you doing here Hibikmi?" Inu yasha asked in a menicing tone.

"I see your not happy to see me, even after all these years," replied Hibikimi as she bowed to show respect .

"Can you really blame me? After what you did to me?"

"That wasn't me, that was my father and you know it." Hibikmi looked around for something to change the subject when her eyes met Kagome. "So Inu yasha, why don't you tell me about your little friend here? What's your name?" She asked turning frome Inu yasha to Kagome.

"Higurashi, Kagome," said Kagome with a faked smile, as she never took her eyes off of the strange demons long, sharp, blood red claws. She had learned the hard way about never letting your guard down around a demon you don't know and she didn't plan on having it taught to her again.

"Hibikmi is a cat demon," Inu yasha stated when he sensed how apprehensive Kagome was in Hibikmi's presents.

"I think she figured that one out on her own Inu yasha," sighed Hibikmi with her vibrant blue eyes boring into Kagome's as she smirked an evil grin. "You haven't met many friendly demons have you Kagome?

"I don't think that that's any of your business Hibikmi," Kagome snarled

"Suit yourself human, I was just trying to be nice. Anyways... Inu yasha how long has it been?" she asked rhetorically, "It must have been at least.... 100 years." Hibikmi said this so calmly as though it had only been 10 years it sent chills down Kagome's spine and she couldn't get rid of the feeling that Hibikmi wasn't telling them something. "Oohh you haven't met my youngest sibling have you Inu yasha?" asked Hibikmi. Inu yasha had a look of pure bewilderment upon his face as Hibikmi called, "SHOMA IT'S ALRIGHT YOU CAN COME OUT NOW!" The words no sooner left her blood red lips when a little girl who looked no older than 7, with jet black hair, wearing a light purple kimono came running out from a bush just behind Hibikmi and clutched her sister tight around the waist. "Isn't she an angel Inu yasha? Shoma this is Inu yasha and Kago- Where's Kagome?

Inu yasha turned around in an instant his heart beating in his throat, he had turned his back on her for one second and she had disappeared! "Where did she go?" he asked himself. When suddenly he heard Hibkmi's sickening cackle of a laugh.
