Separated from the others Kagome looses her arm in a struggle for survival. Maimed as she is, she survives somehow and stumbles into Sesshoumaru's care.
An arm for an arm he offers a recovering Kagome. She agrees channeling her Miko powers in her lone hand to regrow an arm that would have taken Sesshoumaru ages to regrow.
Kagome as a human mortal cannot regrow a limb even through magic, and so Sesshoumaru takes the arm of a strong siren youkai and uses his poison to meld the limb to what remains of Kagome's arm.
The arm has a physical influence over Kagome who finds herself slowly changing into something not quite youkai but not completely miko or human...
