“Kagome, can you take over so I can go on my break?” Kyoka asked.

“Sure, I can handle the store,” Kagome replied. “Have fun!” she called.

"Thanks, I’ll try!” Kyōka called back.

Today was Wednesday and it had been a long week for Kagome She looked down at the rows upon rows of sparkling jewellery in front of her and glanced at the clock to her right.

1:36 pm.

She could’ve sworn that it was 1:23 pm thirty minutes ago! Before she could sigh, the door chimed and in walked the most handsome man she’d ever seen in her life. She forgot the words she was supposed to say to welcome customers and opted for silence. His business suit was perfectly tailored and his long silver hair was loose and reflected the light as he strolled the store, stopping first at the diamonds and then at the garnets. She tried her hardest not to stare at the handsome stranger, afraid that she would be called rude or just as bad, annoying. As he continued to walk around, she stared at the jewels in front of her and prayed that she could resist the urge to stamp his image into her memory.

Sesshōmaru had to give himself a silent pep talk before walking into the jewellery store. He’d been in there before to buy his mother presents and the last time he was here, he was just about to walk out of the store when he saw an employee walk up to the counter from the back room. He was thunderstruck by her subtle beauty and the way she walked spoke of her grace. He had to remind himself of his manners but when she smiled at the customer in front of her, he was tempted to forego manners. He entertained the idea of asking her for a refind despite making his purchase less than ten minutes earlier. If he could get her name, he’d be fine with taking a few more minutes to pick out something else. Maybe he’d even ask her for “help” even though he knew damn well that his mother loved ametrine. His plans were shot down, though, when his cell phone binged and a message from his Vice-President Tanemura alerted him of the board meeting in 30 minutes. With one more glance at the woman, he left and she’d been on his mind ever since. All month he’d been raking his mind trying to figure out how to ask that woman for her name. Or for a date. Surely he couldn’t just walk in and ask her out of the blue! She might think of him as a creep or think he was playing a nasty joke on her. But by the gods did he want to spend time with her! Finally he thought of something that might work. Might.

So now here he was, a nervous wreck trying to “browse” the store before approaching the woman that had been on his mind for weeks. He glanced at the diamonds and immediately decided that those were too much. Next he looked at some red garnets and was turned off by the color. Maybe pearls? Pearls weren’t over the top, were they? As he glanced around, he spotted the prefect gem. That perfect gem just so happened to be under the woman he’d been thinking of. Cursing fate, he walked up her in what he hoped was a calm stride. When he reached the counter, they made eye contact and he was so sure that this gem was the right one.

But then she blushed and smiled faintly up at him and offered a small, “Hello.”

He stood still, mind blank, and pulse racing. He was here for something, right? Right? For all that was good in the world, he couldn’t remember what he was supposed to get. Did mother want another ametrine ring? He was brought out of his thoughts when he heard the woman in front of him clear her throat. Gods, she was so small. She barely reached his chest!

“Hello, did you need help with choosing something? Perhaps you could start with these?” her voice was clear and a bit shakey while her left hand gestured to the jewellery in front of her.

'No ring,' he mused. When he glanced down at the items she motioned toward, he was reminded of why he decided to stop into this store today. 'It’s now or never, Sesshōmaru!' Taking a deep breath, he pointed at the necklace that had caught his eye and said, “This one. I’d like to see it, please.” He watched as her her pink blush deepened to an enchanting red and her hands opened the counter to pull out the item he'd picked.

Kagome placed the necklace on the counter, afraid that she might drop it if she tried to hand it to her handsome customer. The gods were either smiling down on her or laughing at her. Why did he have to be so good looking? Surely her poor heart wasn't meant to beat this hard or fast!

The man in front of her silently picked up the necklace, eyed the cintrine gem that hung from a dainty gold chain, and then asked, "How many carats is the main stone?" His voice was so deep and smooth, Kagome could imagine it gliding over her skin as it sent small tremors down her back.

"Uhm, that stone is 30 carats, sir," came her reply. 'I just have to give information, sell the item, and then move on to the next customer,' she thought to herself.

"And these small gems along the citrine: are they diamonds or moissanite," he inquired while looking into her eyes.

Taking a breath to steady herself, she replied, "Diamonds, sir."

He nodded in acknowledgmeant, looked from the necklace to Kagome, and then said, "I'll take this one," as he placed it back on the counter.

"Sure, if you'll follow me to the counter, I'll ring it up for you!" She replied, thankful that her stress will soon be over. They walked silently to the register and he reached into his pocket for his wallet. Before Kagome could announce the price, he held out his credit card and waited for her to take it.

He was mentally kicking himself right now. He had a whole scenario planned out! He should be chatting with her and basking in the sound of her laughter but instead he was just barely enduring awkward silence. When she piped up as she slid his card through the machine, he thanked all the gods that he'd be given a chance to go through with his plans after all.

"So, what's the special occasion?" he heard her ask.

"At the moment, there is none," he started. "I suppose you can say that this is a blind buy on my part," Sesshōmaru chuckled.

Tilting her head, Kagome asked, "You're stocking up for when you mess up?"

Sesshōmaru let out a laugh. "No, I just don't know what the person likes. I originally thought to get diamonds but decided that they were a bit much," he said with a gentle smile.

"Well, I'm sure the person you're giving the necklace to love it. Citrine is a lovely gem!" Kagome chirped as her handed him his receipt to sign.

"Yes, I hope so," he mused as he signed the paper. "Are you new here? I've not seen you before," he continued. It was a bit of a lie but figured he could get away with it.

"Yes, I started just over a month ago! My name is Kagome," she said With a smile on her face.

"Then, Kagome, I hope to see you more. You're very helpful. My name is Sesshōmaru," he replied as he put his credit card back in and slid another card out. "Before I go, could I borrow your pen and some tape?" He asked.

Kagome blinked twice before she shook head. "Sure, no problem!" She reached across the register to hand him the items he requested and watched as he scribbled something on a card and taped it to the box that held the necklace. He gave her the tape, pen, and then handed her the box.

"For you. They compliment your eyes," he said with a gentle smile and then turned towards the door before she could protest.

Shocked, Kagome looked down at the heavy embossed card that read, "Sesshōmaru Togu, Shangri-La Hotel, President." Under the address was a written mobile number and next to it he'd written, "Dinner?"
