It began when the well closed and refused passage to anyone. Our little Kagome was heartbroken to never see her friends again. Especially the beautiful half demon that stole her heart. She was gloomy for days afterward.
Eventually everyone around her became more distant. One night she found a note on the refrigerator. It read, 'Left for groceries. Be back soon.'
Soon turned into hours, then a night. The first knock at the door was a police officer explaining that Kagome's mother and grandfather died of a horrible shoot down robbery. Kagome expected to be allowed to stay at the shrine, but the government insisted that she was still considered a child, and placed her and Sota in an orphanage.
And our story begins with her and Sota walking from school to this little orphanage.
"Kagome, do you think we'll ever get out of this place?"
She looked at him. "Why, someone bullying you?"
"Just that guy..." Sota's spine shook. "He gives me the creeps."
"Well we only have to put up with it a little longer."
Up ahead a couple was fighting.
"Well if you weren't so damn picky, Sesshomaru, we would have an heir by now." Kagome almost looked up at the name, but brushed it off as coincidence.
"We're not even dating." Sesshomaru crossed his arms and leaned against a column of the building. "And it's wrong to give these children false hope, Yura."
"That's true." Kagome shoved in between them in order to get up the stairs, but someone grabbed her arm and pulled her back.
"Miko?" Her head snapped.
"Let go of me." Sesshomaru did immeadiatly and followed her and Sota into the building.
"Yo, Kagome!" The creepy old man Sota spoke of earlier called from across the room. "Who's he?"
"Sesshomaru, creepy old guy. I still don't know his name so don't ask." Kagome started climbing another set of stairs to the room she shared with Sota.
"Creepy old guy, find some legal papers." Sesshomaru continued to follow behind Sota. "Miko? Does Inuyasha know you're here?"
Kagome smiled. "So he's still alive?"
"Yes, we live at an estate outside of town. Why are you here?"
"My mother died." The creepy old man interupted.
"Here's the papers!"
"What're you doing?" Kagome looked up at him.
"What do think? This place wreaks and I liked it when you were the only human I could somewhat stand. Can't let that be ruined. So pack up. You too kid." He ruffled Sota's hair.
Kagome could tell this would lead to some odd situations, but it felt good to have a new beginning with someone she actually knew.
