A/N: Some of these drabbles will be longer than others. I'll update as I finish them, but real life always takes the drivers seat. I have three kids and a big baby of a hubby. They come first. Please stick with me. Just because I don't have alot of time doesn't mean that these stories have no meaning for me. Enjoy.
The Wind
She stood in the abandoned street listening to the wind. Broken light post could be seen as far as the eye could see, illuminated by the full moon’s light. Strangely, they reminded her of huge spider legs. Black and twisted spider legs jutting from the ground to ensnare anyone who walked too close to either side of the street. She scoffed at herself knowing beyond the shadow of a doubt that there was nothing alive here, not even a spider. Still, she followed the yellow double lines in the middle of the blacktop.
Closing her eyes she concentrated on the wind. It serenaded her. It whistled through the shattered glass of abandoned buildings. It moaned through abandoned alleyways. It sung a lullaby from the tops of trees that would no longer produce fresh greenery.
Inhaling deeply she tried to pick up familiar scents on the breeze. She released her breath with an almost inaudible sigh. There was nothing comforting to be sensed from it. There were no sweet cherry blossoms to be smelled. No fresh rain could be detected. In fact, the air was completely void of life. Just as she knew deep down that it would be.
Still, there was comfort to be had in the wind. It sung to her every night. It cooled her heated cheeks from her exertions of life as a nomad. It was her constant companion. No matter where she wondered, the wind accompanied her. It caressed her face and dried the tears that she had shed every day since the end…or the beginning.
Yes, the wind was her constant companion, but not the only companion. The Others were always with her.
