Chapter 1: Dismal Musings
A manicured finger pressed down on a single ivory key, the sound resonating throughout the spacious Tokyo penthouse. It felt emptier than usual. The only other sound to be heard were the snores of her massive St. Bernard sprawled out on their expensive leather couch.
At least someone is content.
Kagome looked out the window spanning the entire wall to a point along the horizon where the sun had set hours ago, and continued her dismal musings. It was October now, but their marriage hadn’t been the same since June. Sesshoumaru’s work had picked up; he was increasingly making more business trips and staying at the office late into the night. Although he had never been a talkative youkai, he seemed more distance than normal. She tried to be understanding and supportive, but all this time spent alone was downright depressing. Surely once work slowed down everything would go back to normal again.
“Come, Boomer. It’s time for bed.”
Kagome shuffled into the bedroom and slipped on one of Sesshoumaru’s oversized T-shirts. After crawling under the covers and the dog was settled at the foot of the bed Kagome hugged one of her husband’s pillows close. It smelled like him.
