Listen To My Beating Heart by onelight

Pure Heart

This was it, the final battle. To day Naraku would be defeated, and the world would be at peace once more.

Kagome smiled her body feeling lighter at the sights before her. They were finally wining, today she was sure would be the end of Naraku.

She stood back away from the battle nursing a wounded Miroku and Sango. The young miko was astonished seeing the brothers fight together, without and arguing. They worked in union with skilled precession that she wasn't aware they had.

"They're wining!" Kagome said excitedly.

The others only looked on at the scene in complete silence. They had defeated Naraku's minions their job was complete. Now it was up to the half sibling to finsh the job.

They were sure Naraku was out of tricks, because he wasn't hurtling anymore at them.

Then it happened the last blow. Naruku's head went in one direction his body in another. Inuyasha went towards to torso and Sesshomaru the head. They had to make sure this was over.

Inuyasha using one last wind scare of the destroyed the torso then turned towards were his comrades were and did a quick nod the edges of his lips twitching.

Sesshomaru looked upon the head of Naraku the eyes were closed. He raised his sword for one last blast.

Kagome noticed Inuyasha's nod and almost shouted with joy, but she controlled herself and looked towards Sesshomaru who still stood over the head.

Then Sesshomaru crumbled to the ground and didn't move again.

Inuyasha was the first over, half way there he could already smell the death on his half brother.

"What happened?" Kagome asked rushing over. Sango and Miroku staggered behind slowly supporting each other.

"He's dead." Inuyasha said quietly his heart sank to his stomach and he felt sadness he had never felt before.

"What?" Kagome said quietly looking down at Sesshomaru.

His eyes were closed and he didn't move, he looked almost asleep. Then his chest rose.

"He's breathing!" She shouted bending down putting her ear close to his chest. His heart beat slow and not very steady, but it was there. Which gave them all hope.

Inuyasha took another deep breath. "He smells dead."

"Maybe he's in a place in between?" Mirouku came forward, he used his staff too balance his body.

"You mean he's in a coma?" Kagome asked.

Miroku nodded.

" He was just fine a minute ago, right Inuyasha?" The demon exterminator asked.

" I think so, he said nothing about feel bad." Inuyasha said. He couldnt believe it, just as his brother and himself started to get along something like this had to happen.

"Could it have been Naraku's doing?" Sango asked.

No one answered, because they all thought it was possible.

Miroku unwrapped his hand without warning almost giving everyone around him a heart attack. He showed the hole free hand to his companions.

"Naraku's dead." The monk told.

Picking up the jewel shards Kagome merged it all together making it whole again.

"We should get him to Kaedea, maybe she will..." Kagome words died as she saw Inuyasha already picking Sesshomaru up.

Inuyasha struggled a little with his first few steps. The injuries he had received during the battle plus Sesshomaru's dead weight wasn't going to make the trip very easy.

Kagome smiled at the scene, she said nothing.

Then she frowned at the limp Sesshomaru. This was just strange and she hoped it would be figured out soon.

Sesshomaru blinked.

He was still in the clearing, but alone. The signs of the battle that had just taken place missing.

He couldn't smell his brother, neither could he smell Naraku. He really couldn't smell anything.

He couldn't hear anything either, nor could he see anything. If that made any sense.

He felt blinded like he was missing something big.

He frowned when it suddenly started to rain. He couldn't hear the rain drops, he didn't even fell them. He really couldn't see it either, but he was sure it was raining.

Then he heard foot steps, no he didn't hear foot steps he just was a aware someone was walking.

"Sesshomaru," A women said. Maybe a women? He wasn't sure.

"Do you want to return?" She asked.

Sesshomaru vision started to clear. It was a women for sure her face blocked from his mind.

"What do you mean return?" Sesshomaru asked. He felt his grip on whatever he was holding onto slipping.

"You almost died Sesshomaru. Long before the battle Naraku connected your life with his. If he died you would also. You can say it was his way of saying if he was going down he wasn't going by himself." The unknown women explained.

"I am dead?" Sesshomru asked, surprised he wasn't angry, he wasn't experiencing any kind of emotion at all.

"No" the women corrected."Almost and you will if you don't fix this."

"Fix it?" His hold was slipping even further.

"The battle isn't over yet. Naraku is dead, but he was not the only threat. The one who gave him the curse, that he gave to you is after a much bigger object then the jewel. This new threat is much bigger then Naraku, you can say he was the real true defeater of Naraku." the women said.

"This Sesshomaru dose not understand." He said slowly, but for some reason he felt deep down he really did understand.

The women smiled, he couldn't see her smile but he was sure she did.

"I will restore you back to your body Sesshomaru, but you must do something for me." The women explained.

"What is it?" Sesshomaru asked.

"You must protect the girl Kagome. The reason she must be protected I can not tell you, but do this and you will walk the earth again."

"That is all?" Sesshomaru asked. It seemed to easy.

"Yes, but of course no one will not be able to see you." she said.

"How I'm suppose to protect her? If I can not be seen." Sesshomaru said.

"Your clever Sesshomaru I'm sure you will figure something out. Do you accept?" The women said quickly. His hold was slipping she had to do this quickly.

He didn't think about it long, "Yes."

The words had just left his mouth, then he was standing behind a hunched Kagome.

Kagome pulled the covers over Sesshomaru. Kaeda hadn't said anything useful. They just had to hope he would awaken some day.

Kagome froze then turned, to stare at the openness behind her she was sure she felt someone standing behind her.

Sighing she stood. She would have to make a wish on the jewel soon, everyone was waiting on that. They had all decided making the jewel go away quickly, would be the best. A world without this jewel would be a better place Kagome told herself.

It was up to her to come up with a pure wish. It was kinda overwelming but it had to be done. She already had the wish in mind. She just hoped it was truely as unselfish as she thought it was.

Walking from the small hut that would be Sesshomaru's into he awakened she went to find everyone to give them the news.

Sesshomaru thought it was strange to see his own self looking so open to attack. He thought his expression was a little to nice.

He watched as Kagome turned looking directly at him, only to turn away with a sigh.

Then she stood leaving the hut.

Kagome saw Inuyasha coming fallowed by Jaken and Rin. Jaken yelling at Inuyasha the whole way for letting his lord get hurt. Rin just looked ready to cry.

When they finally made it to her Kagome pointed to the hut telling them he was inside. Once they had left Kagome turned to Inuyasha.

"I have the wish I want to make." Kagome said.

Inuyasha looked surprised but nodded. "Tonight?"

Kagome looked at her feet, "Tonight."

Sesshomaru watched as his wards ran into the hut were he lay, but didn't fallow. Instead he fallowed Kagome as she and the rest of her group met up. It was his job too protector her.

"You sure about this Kagome?" Sango asked giving her friend a hug.

Kagome nodded holding the jewel in her hands trying not to accidently wish something.

"I'm sure what ever it is Kagome has made the right choice." Miroku commented.

Clasping the jewel between both hands she closed her eyes, and she wished.

She wished every life taken by Naraku, all the lives effected by Naraku to be the way it's suppose to be. Then the jewel disappeared and the well sealed.

Kagome opened her eyes. She was sure she would be back home at the bottom of the well. Instead she was looking down at Shippo who looked up at her.

"Did it work?" The little demon asked.

She opened her hands the jewel was gone but nothing seemed to have changed.

"Inuyasha!" came a shout from the surrounding Forrest.

Kikyo emerged moments later. She ran to Inuyasha and they shared a warm embrace, that sat Kagome's heart a ach.

She was breathing and crying. She was alive.

"Thank you Kagome." Kikyo cried moving to hug Kagome.

Kagome returned the embrace, she was let go when Kohaku emerged. His jewel had been taken weeks ago along with Kouga's. Songo was more then happy to see her younger brother alive when she had to kill him with her own hands. The slain Kouga was more then likely appearing before his comrades at this very moment, Kagome thought. He was killed by Naraku a few weeks ago.

No one noticed as Kagome quietly walked away from the happy crowd. No one but her golden eyed guardian.
