Chapter 2

In her dreams, Kagome saw him.

InuYasha.

He had that same cocky attitude he’d had when she first met him, but there was a softness she knew existed beneath it all.

For a moment, she forgot he was dead as he pulled her into his arms.

“You’ve always been special to me, K’gome,” he told her as he held her tightly. “Don’t forget that.”

”You’re special to me, too,” she replied, burying her face in his chest as she relished their closeness.

In that moment, she didn’t feel alone.

“Don’t forget me, either,” he said gruffly.

She looked up to find his expression oddly serious. “Why would I forget you,” she asked then, “when you’re right here?”

“Keh. I won’t always be,” he replied, his expression one of regret.

And then suddenly he was out of her arms before she could stop him.

In a panic, she looked for him. She knew if she didn’t find him, something terrible would happen.

She had to find him.

There was still a chance to fix this, to make it all right.

Her heart pounded as she searched but she couldn’t find him no matter how she looked. She checked their hut, the village, and even the forest by the well.

InuYasha was gone.

And then suddenly she caught a hint of red.

She turned, relief suffusing her for just a moment.

Until she realized the red was buried beneath an avalanche of rocks.

Reality came back in a flood of pain.

InuYasha was dead.

She woke up screaming.
